UNIVERSAL OFFICE DESIGN PROJECT - Dr. Squatch

Tasked with designing an office space for a B-Certified Corporation, I was faced with the challenge of creating a balanced space that promoted interdepartmental communication for the company Dr. Squatch. A small company, focused on creating sustainable, well-crafted products tailored to men, needed a space that promoted both brand values and community. For my concept, the pine cone represents radial symmetry and balance. Having a centralized, collaborative work station allows for employees to come and go as they please. The project requirements also highlighted the challenge of designing for a mobility and visually impaired CEO. I focused on wayfinding along with accessible entries everywhere, including the office pods that feature folding benches to allow room for wheelchairs. Wayfinding can be used by following the change in flooring from floor 4 and 5, differences in ceiling materials, and the pine cone inspired signage. I focused on choosing design products that represented the brand colors, as well as contributed to sustainability efforts to align with the brand values. To contribute to the brand’s focus on well-being, a gym, yoga room and juice bar was also included in the design for employee benefit. This allowed the office space to have another level of community and for relationships forming outside of the day-to-day tasks. In conclusion, the design choices showcased will help promote a healthier, more collaborative work environment for all Dr. Squatch employees by providing them with a space that has Open and Flexible Layouts, Dedicated Collaboration Zones, Transparent Design and Culture/ Branding.
