Netflix Headquarters Commercial Design

Student: Rebecca Davis

School: Endicott College

For my semester long commercial studio project, we were tasked to redesign levels 4 and 5 of an office complex in Cambridge Massachusetts: the hub of modern technological advancement. I designed for the brand Netflix: a global entertainment company known for its innovative approach to streaming content. Starting as a DVD rental service, it has evolved into one of the most influential forces in the entertainment community. Netflix has expanded into its own film making production company seen through Netflix-original content. Its audience is expansive and reaches generations of all ages with different interests. All genres are represented with movies, shows, documentaries, and short films. My target word, storytelling, intertwines with my concept of a ribbon which illustrates the fluidity of narrative and journey through film. Although visually dynamic, my handmade 3-D parti represents the connection and unity my design supports amongst the users (employees and guests in the office space). This parti is used as a skylight between the 2 floors and is subtly used to direct traffic on both the interior and exterior. A glass encased feature stair case is strategically positioned on the side of the Cambridge Center with the most street side traffic to maximized on branding opportunity. Inclusive space planning caters to employees of all different work habits supporting both sociofugal and sociopetal interactions. Overall, my design interprets how a work place should be: prioritizing diverse needs of employees while also intertwining inspirational company values.
