Bugs of New England Museum highlights the importance of the “smaller” roles we do not see daily that still impact us greatly. Bringing a new perspective on the nature & insects of New England through an educational experience, visitors are given a sense of re-immersion to nature within a big city. A centralized flow paired with the use of archways & curves guides users from one exhibit to the next. Utilizing an exaggeration of scale, visitors feel as though they are an insect within the museum creating an educational yet playful experience as they travel from space to space. Supporting this with the use of bio-mimicry through textures, tones, & patterns, a connection is created between materials & the types of insects highlighted within the floor or exhibit. As visitors travel through levels, the first floor showcases ground bugs using warmer, darker materials pushing the feeling of being underground, while the second floor features flying insects with brighter & cooler tones as well as an open environment. Through developing a mix of learning spaces juxtaposed with engaging exhibits, an interactive space for people of all ages to learn more about New England’s bugs is created.
